How to Setup and Use 2FA with WordFence?

Setup and Use 2FA with WordFence

My name is Maddie, and I work as an instructor with Wordfence. I’ll be demonstrating today how to utilize and configure Wordfence’s Two-Factor Authentication. So let’s get going.

The second layer of login security known as two-factor authentication is one of the safest methods of remote system authentication.

It depends on both something you have in your possession, like a mobile device and something you know, like a password.

Setup and Use 2FA with WordFence

You will first navigate to your Wordfence settings and then the Login Security page from your WordPress dashboard, where we will begin.

Once you arrive, a QR code will be visible, and we’ll use the time-based one-time application to scan it. I’ll be utilizing the Google Authenticator app for this particular demo, but our documentation also includes a list of additional apps that will function just as well.

Let me proceed and scan the QR code you can see here. As a result, I can now connect my WordPress website to my authenticator app using the six digits I see on my authenticator app.

To let you know that these codes do regenerate roughly every 30 seconds, I’m going to enter that code right away. If it changes, don’t be concerned; just enter the new code.

So once I enter the code, I’ll hit “activate,” and you’ll be asked to download several recovery codes. I strongly advise you do this because each backup code can only be used once and these are helpful in case you lose access to your authenticator app.

Final Conclusion on Setup and Use 2FA with WordFence

Only one use of each backup code is permitted. You will receive five of them, and if you use them all, you can choose to have the codes renewed.

Your website is now protected by a second layer since you’ve installed two-factor authentication. Please don’t hesitate to ask us further questions in the comments section below.

We appreciate your time and look forward to protecting your WordPress website.
